  • Innapropriate Rubbish Disposal at Kampung Baru Market

Innapropriate Rubbish Disposal at Kampung Baru Market

Bukit Mertajam- These are the images of the the condition of the Kampung Baru Market's parking lot where rubbish and other waste is dumped and the placement of the disposal area is deemed innapropriate by the residents there. A concerned resident who lives in that area sent us this images expressing his regret on how such condition has caused great inconvenience, not just to him but other residents who come to the market as well. The entire parking area smells really bad, with a strong pungent smell that creates discomfort among those who have to park their cars in the area. Moreover, the area has gone filthy with pests and other stray animals taking over the area and feeding on the rubbish and waste there. Many resident depend on the availability of the parking lot as the market already has a pre-existing parking issue, where there is not enough spots for cars to be parked. Residents are forced to park there despite the filthy condition of the area. The condition also indirectly contributes to the chances of residents being exposed to diseases due to this unhealthy and unhygenic manner of waste management and disposal. SPT News urges the MPSP to act immediately to resolve this issue, not just to clean the area but to come up with a different location of the disposal bins placement to avoid any further inconvenience to the residents visiting the market and using the parking lot. Moreover, we also request MPSP and the relevant departments to look into the issue of lack of parking spots. Our residents deserve a clean, sustainable and condusive enviroment and it is our collective duty to work together towards creating such enviroment. Together as a Community!!! • Polluted Rivers in BM

    Polluted Rivers in BM

Padang Lalang- SPT News reporters have identified the condition of Sungai Juru, passing Taman Desa Damai which is visibly polluted by rubbish and other waste. The effort of preserving our rivers are no where to be seen. This has now caused the river to look like an open sewers.  Mud, loose sand, soil and solids cause siltation in our river. The silt affects the river in many ways. It reduces water volume and had turned the river murky. SPT News will reach out to Jabatan Alam Sekitar immediately to see if we could all work together to restore the condition of the river. Meanwhile, SPT News pleads the people of Seberang Perai Tengah to do their part to help this effort. Disposing your domestic waste properly and avoid littering could help reduce the amount of rubbish thrown. It is our collective duty and responsibility to preserve and protect our rivers, and we are sure the people of SPT are wise enough to do that. Together as a community!!! • Improper Crossing at Berapit

    Improper Crossing at Berapit

Berapit- SPT News received a complaint from a resident of Kampung Tanah Liat in Berapit on the condition of the street crossing in front of Masjid Haji Saad, Berapit. According to the complaint that we received, the roads were tarred up months ago, however the lines are yet to be painted on the road. The concerned resident regretted this situation by saying that it puts villagers, women and children included, that visits the mosque in great danger. He further explained that the absence of the crossing line results in cars getting too close to the pedestrians crossing the road when the light turns red, sometimes almost hitting them. The crossing line functions not only to guide pedestrians but to signal the vehicles to stop at a reasonably safe distance when they need to stop. This situation gets worse during Mahgrib and Isyak, when the roads gets too congested and during Isyak, it gets too dark and cars can't see where to stop. The elderly and childrens are the most vulnerable in this situation. SPT News regrets that such situation has occured. We will immeadiately reach out to Jabatan Kerja Raya Pulau Pinang and inform them of this situation and request for action to be taken as soon as possible. No road users should be neglected or sidelined, especially pedestrians, by not providing infrastructures and amenities in the proper condition. Together as a community!!! • Immigrants Takes Over BM

    Immigrants Takes Over BM

Bukit Mertajam- The town today has been taken over by immigrants, mostly illegal immigrants who got into our counrty without proper authorisation. According to the statistics given by the Malaysian Immigration Department, there are over 7 million immigrants in Malaysia, with only 2.2 million of them having proper permit and authorisation. The rest of them are considered as illegal immigrants. Bukit Mertajam has become one of the main hubs for them. As a BM-ian, you would probably notice the overflowing outpour of immigrants in the town of Bukit Mertajam, especially on Sundays or any other public holidays. The streets of BM Town would be fully occupied by them and all shops and even the shopping complex would be filled with them. This is a situation which makes us wonder, are they legally permitted to work in Malaysia, or even be in Malaysia? This is something the local and federal authorities have to answer. SPT News received a complaint from one of the people in Bukit Mertajam expressing the uprising crisis and how he is affected through this. According to him, rates of crime increases and many Malaysian in Bukit Mertajam are already starting to avoid going to the town on the mentioned days. Business for Malaysians are coming to a halt as the occupation of illegal immigrants severely damage the prospects of getting any Malaysian customers.
